Eagles galore this afternoon - this was my most sharpest image — so I had to lead with it. This is all this post is about - eagles, eagles and more eagles.
Not the biggest fish, but I am sure this eagle will be plenty satisfied.
Both Ryan and I saw the more mature eagle drop the fish onto the ground and then look to the ground as if to say.. wth… why… why did I just do that. lol
I saw Ryan post an image similar to this a couple days ago, so I wanted to try to emulate it - his composition was better, but you get the idea… the wing spread was just awesome!
So yeah, I have a thing about capturing an eagle just getting ready to get the fish.. you can actually see the fish a foot or so ahead of the talons… I wonder if it knows?
Even watching the osprey circle back and forth three times I was not able to get a clear shot of it submerging into the river… these next couple of shots were the best I could muster… still not a bad outing.
Again, not my best shot of the day, but the story told is far better than the quality here… the angle — the fish and how it is dangling… now that is a fish story to tell…
My friend John Meader taught me that Osprey tend to carry their catch from tail to head — as shown here … makes them more streamlined for flying. Thanks for the fun photog adventure Ryan!
